MBA Prerequisite Courses

There are six MBA prerequisite courses designed for students who may not have an undergraduate degree in business administration. Students who have varying amounts of previous academic work in business may have the requirements waived for selected foundation courses, depending upon when these equivalent courses were taken and the grades received.

ACCT 4999 - Financial Accounting for Managerial Control (3 semester hours) This course provides students with: (1) an understanding of basic financial accounting terminology, (2) an overview of the financial accounting process, (3) sufficient grounding in financial accounting to be able to understand and analyze the basic financial statements. Prerequisite: Graduate (MBA) student status. Syllabus

ECON 4999 - Economic Concepts (3 semester hours) This course is designed to cover the subject of introductory micro and macro economics. It includes selected topics of intermediate micro and macro theory. Prerequisite: Graduate (MBA) student status. Syllabus

FINC 3400 - Corporate Finance (3 semester hours) This course deals with the fundamental tools of financial management: namely, the time value of money, risk and return measurement, determination of cash flow, pro-forma statements, and ratio analysis. These tools in conjunction with basic financial theory and concepts are used to study the financial problems facing the firm and how these problems are solved. Prerequisites: ACCT 4999 and ECON 4999, or equivalent courses. Syllabus

MATH 3110 - Statistical Analysis for Business (3 semester hours) A study of frequency, relative and cumulative frequency distributions of data, graphical presentations of data, descriptive statistics, Chebyshev's inequality, basic probability, mean and standard deviation of random variables, binomial, Poisson and normal distributions, sampling techniques and sampling distributions, statistical estimation and hypothesis testing, simple linear regression and correlation, and statistical quality control and forecasting techniques. MGMT 3500 - Management Theory and Practice (3 semester hours) A study of the theory and practices of administrative management and an introduction to organization behavior and organization theory. Uses a systems approach to emphasize the interdependence of social, technical, and structural inputs to the organization. Syllabus

MKTG 3700 - Principles of Marketing (3 semester hours) An introduction to the basic principles of marketing and the marketing environment, with a focus on understanding ethical planning, implementing, and controlling marketing activities on a local, national, and global scale. Syllabus
